When You Called My Name
When you called my name
For the very first time
In many a month
I knew it was over
By the tone of the carelessness
Blissful ignorance
But wasn't that what I wanted?
To be a stranger once again?
To be numb to the pain
For you to live life as you should?
All good love stories end in tragedy
Bitter is sweet
Pain is pleasure
The stage brings a smile of knowing sympathy
To the ones who watch
Spectators and bystanders one and all
Now it seems
You have finally joined their ranks
I know so
By the way you called my name
I am all alone on stage
While you're watching in amusement with them
When the show is over
When the crowd has made their exit
You will leave along with them and say
"That was great!"
And I will be sitting there still
Wondering how the show will ever go on again.
