Writer's Guidelines

"Scottish Radiance, A Scottish Journal's" mission is: To bring to the world information about the history, current life, and the special things of Scotland. Since we are a Hebridean Island Journal, we are interested in highlighting things related to island living and the ocean. Our number one criterion is quality and originality.

Material Sought

Scottish Radiance welcomes submissions from both established and unknown writers living anywhere in the world. We print short fiction, poetry, drama, translation and creative nonfiction. Our only criteria are originality and quality. Our most sought after subjects areas are Scotland, Celtic and Gaelic issues, the Hebrides, Scottish History, North Atlantic features, island living, and ocean. We will consider other areas if they are very original and superior quality.

How to Submit

Please send original, and unpublished material. (We will consider previous hardcopy published material by special arrangement.) All submission should be in English with the exception of Gaelic and translations should come with a copy of the original work. We consider work published in whole on the Internet to have been published, unless it has just been posted to writing newsgroups or forums for criticism. Please also limit the number of items in a submission: one story, four or five poems, a short play or excerpt will be adequate. We also recommend that you read a recent issue of Scottish Radiance.

Manuscript/Submission Specifications

We accept only electronic submissions. Please send your material as either part of the body of the E-mail message, or as a MIME compliant attachment in ASCII or a PC compatible word processing format. Please note in the message header that you are submitting to us, and include a short covering note containing your regular mailing address.

All manuscripts must be less than 3,000 words, though we are flexible for outstanding work.

All submissions are read by two editors, and final decisions are made by that group. We try to respond as quickly as possible, usually within two to three weeks.

Rights and Payment

Scottish Radiance, contracts for selected articles for one time only digital rights, in order to place the material on our web site. We do not pay for material but we heavily advertise our magazine on the WWW and get a lot of traffic. We will archive all articles so it will remain on the web until we are notified to remove it. If you are chosen as a columnist, we maintain the digital rights until until the column is no longer running in the magazine.

All submissions should be sent to Scottish Radiance to editor in charge. We will respond within two to three weeks.
