How Should You Approach Relatives (Part Two)

Don't go to visit a relative without offering them something in return for your information. No one wants to be used. Give them the latest news of the family that you might have and they have not heard.

Some possible things to take to share would be:
family photographs
mystery pictures
a small tape recorder
an incomplete or outline family tree
Do not take with you:
animals
boisterous children
restless teenagers
a restless spouse.

Some of the information above came from My Ain Folk.
