Scotland Puzzle

Scottish Clan Plant Badges

By Kay Glasgow

Before tartans and clan crests were established, plant badges were the likely symbols of clan affiliation. Many Scottish clans opted for sprigs from trees like oak, Scots pine, hazel, birch, juniper, rowan and even driftwood to identify themselves. Other clans chose among Scottish wildflowers for a plant badge. In this puzzle the scrambled word is a clan name associated with the wildflower (English, Gaelic and its literal meaning). The Clan Map of Scotland in the Scottish Radiance archive or the site of the month will help you find where the clans picked wildflowers for plant badges.
