Scottish Thistle

By Kay Glasgow

According to Scottish legend the formidable thistle betrayed some tenth century Norse invaders. One night Viking cries of pain alerted the Scots to the attack. Folklore then cultivated the thistle into Scotland's national symbol. Plenty of thistles still grow in Scotland: cotton, creeping, marsh, melancholy, musk, Our Lady's, slender, spear, stemless and welted. If unscrambling the anagrams proves too prickly, simply pick your way to the answer box!
