Scottish Abbeys

By Kay Glasgow

Scottish history stands in the stone of Scotland's abbeys, albeit many in ruins. David I, King of Scotland (1124-53) built loyalty and the economy making royal burghs. He also founded many abbeys. Now, just what spirit moved him in the Borders to be the abbey-building king?! Sites like http://www.historic-scotland.gov.uk/ have photographs of many Scottish abbeys. There's even a Sweetheart Abbey. Happy Valentine's Day!
