Golfing in Scotland

By Kay Glasgow

No matter how it has been spelled over nearly six centuries, Scotland has more goff, gouff, gowff, golfe or golf courses per person than probably anywhere else in the world. There are over five hundred courses, so it's always tee time somewhere in Scotland the year round. The scrambled letters are a few Scottish coastal links and inland courses taking their names from nearby towns. And yes, I took a swing at making anagrams of the scrambled letters.

1 where Scot Paul Lawrie won British Open '99 IUSENOCART
2 Firth of Clyde six course town NOROT

6 17th c. sandstorms nearly buried the town ULNALEG
7 its courses are Ailsa and Arran RETRYBURN
8 geographically the heart of Scotland LICHTOPRY
9 1st hole is "Slains", the castle ruins nearby (6,3) CUEBRANDY
10 17th hole is called Arthur's Seat OLDNDRYGIN
