Coinnichidh Sinn We Will Meet

"Coinnichidh sinn uaireigin,"
ars esan,
ann an àite gun iomagain,
ann am baile neochiontach
far am bi sìth gun deireadh.

Cha dubhairt i smid.
Dh'fhairich i an reothadh
ís a' bhaile neochiontach sin
's na rionnagan spioradail
a' dèanamh a broilleach fuar.

Iain Mac A' Ghobhainn

"We will meet some time,
said he,
"in a place without anxiety,
in a township of innocence
where there's peace without end."

She said not a word.
She sensed the frost
from that innocent township
with the spiritual stars
making her breast cold.

Iain Crighton Smith
