Holy Island Inner Lighthouse was built off the Island of Arran in 1877 and was engineered by David and Thomas Stevenson . Holy Island has been owned by the Samye Ling Tibetan Center in Dumfries since 1992. A buddish colony of monks and nuns now live in the lighthouse keeper's accommodations.

Our beautiful picture is from the Northern Lighthouse Board's 1998 calendar.

An exciting book about 31 of the best scottish lighthouses explained in insightful text and magnificent colour photographs is available here.
