The Rinns of Islay lighthouse is located on the small island of Orsay at the end of the Rinns peninsula on the south east corner of the Hebridean island of Islay. It was built in 1825 and the engineer was Robert Stevenson. It is a beautiful station with views of the pastel village of Portnahaven across the water. The tower is 29 metres high and the beacon flashes white every 5 seconds. It was automated in 1998. The picture is from the 1998 Northern Lighthouse Board calendar.

An exciting book about 31 of the best scottish lighthouses explained in insightful text and magnificent colour photographs is available here.
