Killantringan Lighthouse occupies a dramatic cliff top with views across the Irish Sea. Four miles to the south is the beautiful village of Portpatrick. Built in 1900 by the engineer David A. Stevenson the lighthouse is important to guiding ships out of Belfast harbour into the Atlantic ocean. The flagpole was once used to transmit message to the passing ships while rockets were used to inform the people of Portpatrick of a disaster or ship in distress. A perfect place to spend a week at a lighthouse it is a popular self catering destination for summer holidays.
