Neist Point Lighthouse was built in 1909 by David and Charles Stevenson. It was automated in 1990 and now runs as a self catering facility. The tower is 19 metres high and has a range of 16 miles. The station is located on the North East corner of the Isle of Skye near Waterstein. The only access is by foot but the 45 minute walk is worth it to see the beautiful facility and the surrounding views. Yes, this is also the lighthouse used by our webmaster for her logo.
An exciting book about 31 of the best scottish lighthouses explained in insightful text and magnificent colour photographs is available here.
