Barns Ness Lighthouse is located on a headland on the coast of East Lothian. Barns Ness headland extends into the North Sea 3 miles south east of Dunbar. A lighthouse designed by D.A. Stevenson was built here in 1901. Designed by David A Stevenson the lighthouse was turned on 1 October 1901. The tower is 121 feet tall and has 169 steps to the top of the tower. Its character is Isophase White every 4 Seconds with a nominal range of 10 nautical miles. It was automated in 1986.
