Lighthouse Beacons From Scotland

Were we surprised when we found the Bona Narrows lighthouse which is located at the point where the Caledonian Canal meets Loch Ness. Who would have thought there would be a lighthouse on Loch Ness. White octagonal building with black octagonal roof, light is shown through a square window. It is operated by British Waterways. It is still active but we were not able to find its night characteristic. It was the smallest manned lighthouse in Great Britain at one time. In 1976 side scan sonar detected large round heaps of stones in 40ft of water just off the lighthouse. The mystery was solved when it was remembered that the Prince Regent, one of Thomas Telfords dredgers dumped hundreds of tons of stone in Loch Ness!
