Fidra is located near the small touwn of Yellowcraigs. Fidra is a small rocky island just off the coast of East Lothian (East of Edinburgh, Scotland). There is a nature reserve on this part of the coast managed by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. Fidra Island is said to be the inspiration for Robert Louis Stevenson's book "Treasure Island." The tower is 17 metres high and the night characteristic is 4 white every 30 seconds. The beacon has a range of 24 nautical miles. The station was engineered by David and Thomas Stevenson. It began operation in 1885 and was automated in 1970.
