We have focused mostly on major lights in this column but Scotland has many interesting minor lights. The one shown here is in Kirkwall in Orkney. It has an intersting chinese looking lantern room. Minor lights like this one are extremely important in a busy harbour like Kirkwall. They have saved many lives and for that reason we can call their function major.

An exciting book about 31 of the best scottish lighthouses explained in insightful text and magnificent colour photographs is available here.
