The Mull of Galloway lighthouse sit regally on a high cliff at the end of the Galloway pennisula in southwest Scotland. It has been there since it was designed and built by Robert Stevenson in 1830. It is currently used a holiday retreat for Northern Lighthouse Boad staff who still want to spend time at a lighthouse after working with them all the time.

Our beautiful picture is from the Northern Lighthouse Board's 1999 calendar and is by George Gilmore.

An exciting book about 31 of the best scottish lighthouses explained in insightful text and magnificent colour photographs is available here
