I just returned from a week's tour of Scotland with a friend that was all done by public transportation. The beginning segment was a ride on the new Northlink Ferry from Lerwick to Aberdeen. It is a luxurious boat and our cabin was warm with comfortable beds. After departing the boat in Aberdeen we took a Citylink bus to Aberdeen. You can see the country side and not have to worry about traveling. After Glasgow we went on to Edinburgh by bus. The weather was so great that we were able to ride on the top of a double deck bus and see the city. Leaving Edinburg again by Citylink bus we journeyed to the Isle of Skye. It is a spectacular ride through the Trossachs and Glencoe. Once again leaving the driving to someone else we were able to enjoy the scenery and take pictures. The pictures of Glencoe turned out great.

We also used local buses and taxis on the Isle of Skye. After visiting friends we took the train back to Aberdeen and then boarded the ferry for home.
Without a doubt Scotland has some of the best public transportation in the world and allows for a leisurely as well as cheap trip.
Sincerely,
