Neighbors

by Sharma Krauskopf

Misty - The Belted Galloway Misty watches the truck fade in the rain.

It is going back to her Mother and the other "Beltie" cows.

She looks for cows in this new home.

Seeing none, she plods to the barn.

All she finds in the barn is a swallow's nest.

Alone, Misty watches it rain.

When the rain stops she goes outside to lie in the grass.

Bugs buzz her head and bite her ears.

Misty can't make them go away.

Three graceful barn swallows swoop around Misty's head.

Misty's new neighbors are helping her by having bugs for lunch.
