Scottish Garden of Verse

IN CELEBRATION OF CANDLEMAS, February 2nd

"If Candlemas Day be fair and bright, winter will have another fight. But be it dark with clouds and rain, winter is gone and will not come again." - Old English Rhyme -

WATCHING THE SKIES
by Diane Davis
Let us have a cloudy day, with storms of rain or snow
make the heavens thunder, give the winds free reign to blow
Let the shadows linger, make the sunshine go away
so we will have an early spring. For this is Candlemas day.

JOURNEY TOGETHER
by Diane Davis

Before we are too ancient
becoming old and frail
I will take my lover's hand
and set out on the trail.

Walking through the highlands
meandering through the glade
stopping for a moment's rest
in a towering castle's shade.

Pondering over Vikings
wondering at the mounds
traipsing through the standing stones
upon the rocky grounds.

We'll be like C.S. Lewis
on his walking tours
discussing Britain's history
through Scotland's literature.
