St Cuthbert Day

March 20th is celebrated in many Scottish cities as the feast day of St Cuthbert. Some of the cities celebrating the day are Ruthwell, Kirkcubright and Ordiquhill. There is much debate whether he was English, Scottish or Irish but he definitely spent time on a small island off of Holy Island and at Melrose Abbey in Scotland. There is a remarkable shrine to St Cuthbert in Durham Cathedral and this is a lovely picture.

Because the saint was such a devote environmentalist he has a extensive cross country walk named after him, St Cuthbert Way.
