![]() This CD is a MOST for any one who loves the fiddle and classical music. A quote from Notes by Aly Bain best describe this absolutely superb CD by Aly and the BT Scottish Ensemble. "Crossing the bridge between classical and traditional music has always interested me. Many of the greatest fiddle composers of the past were influenced by the classical music of their time. Fiddlers and composers such as Marshall, Gow, and Skinner introduced many new bowing techniques into our native music. This cross over is, of course, mutual with Folk music being the root of all music. The theme of this recording is music from around the North Sea. My birthplace of Shetland is equidistant between Aberdeen and Bergen and our culture is steeped in both Scandinavian and Celtic traditions.......Apparently, every Viking ship carried a milk, white mineral called a moonstone and if the sky was too cloudy and blocked the sun the moonstone could collect the sun's rays and let the Vikings know exactly where it was."
Album is hard to get. If you want to order go here and we will try and find it. You can find more articles in the archive under Notes on Celtic Music.
