| Candace Robb is well known for her Owen Archer series an extremely popular historic mystery. In this book she introduces a new character Margaret Kerr of Perth Scotland. The story is
set in the Scotland of William Wallace and Robert the Bruce. Margaret has not heard from her husband in over nine months. When his cousin Jack tries to find him and is murdered Margaret decides to do something about it. She leaves her mother-in-law's residence and travels to
Edinburgh to find him. Margaret is naive and makes many mistakes in her search but she is a well developed character and I found myself wanting her to succeed. The name of William Wallace keeps coming up in the story but
he does not make an appearance in this book. What makes this book so readable and what I call a late night book is the details about the Edinburgh of the 13th century.
Since this was written as the first of a series the reader is left wondering what is going to happen to Margaret. A sequel has not been published as of the writing of this review.
