Scotland - The Complete Guide and Road Atlas
This book is very well written and covers all the areas. It is illustrated beautifully with many pictures and its size makes it a good coffee table book for a low price. Two strong points are some unique tours and the maps in many colors.

Scotland - The Complete Guide


Frommer's Scotland
This book is very well written and covers all the areas but has one of the better sections on the Hebrides. It would particularly useful if you wanted recommendation on hotels and restaurants in the areas you are visiting. A golf guide is included which is quite extensive. Another strong point are the regional maps in two colors.

Michelin Green Guide to Scotland
If you are interested in castles, stately homes, and religious building then this is the guide for you. This guide has in depth architectural information on the famous buildings in Scotland. It covers all areas well. It detailed information on opening and closing times of most attractions. Over all this is a very good guide.

Explorer Scotland
This guide book has great four colour pictures even though they are small. The guide covers most of the areas of Scotland but not in significant detail. The writing style of the author makes it very enjoyable reading. This is a book for the coffee table not to be used as a actual hands on guide in Scotland. It weakest point is detailed information on the areas and the attractions.

Fodors 99 Scotland Fodor's 99 Scotland The guide contains some maps and no pictures. All maps are in black and white. A nice addition was the inclusion of a good Rand McNally map of the entire country. The information covers all areas of the country but only briefly. It does include detailed information on the attractions covers. This was the weakest of the guides we reviewed.

Eyewitness Travel Guides - Scotland
The strenght of this book is the color pictures. It includes a lot of general information and has been well researched. It does not adequately cover areas within Scotland to be used as a hands on guide book.
