| This book by Scottish born author, Val McDermid, was a finalist for the Crime Writer's Association's 2004 Gold Dagger Award. The author brings back her forensic psychiatrist and criminal profiler Dr. Tony Hill (which has become the basis of a TV series on BBC America)and his police colleague, DCI Carol Jordan.
The plot centers around an apparent copycat killer. It has to be a copy cat as the killer convicted of the first crimes is still in a mental hospital. But, Hill does not accept that it is a copy cat. McDermid keeps the suspense high as the facts related to this case become more and more confusing. A special touch to this book is the insight into DCI Jordan's emotional struggle to get back to work after being brutally raped. This is definitely a finely crafted book which once you start you should have a day to finish it as you will NOT want to put it down.
