This is the beginning of a series of destructive events put in place by someone to destroy Bob Skinner. DCC Skinner is vulnerable at this point separated from his wife. This leads him to make some gigantic personal mistakes. This book more than any of the others exhibits some flaws in the super hero DCC and for that it is worth reading.

If you fly in airplanes this book should not be your companion on your next trip. Skinner finds himself involved investigating a mid-air explosion and the emotional and physical devastation of what it left in the aftermath. Warning, Quintin has some graphic descriptions of the horrors when a plane plummets from the sky into a Scottish field. This is a strong point of this book but it is not for the weak hearted.
Skinner becomes seriously injured following the crash and struggles for his very life while his team tries to unravel the mysteries of the red boxes on the plane.

The Edinburgh Festival is world renown and brings thousands of visitors and participants to the city. Terrorist are stalking the festival in this Jardine novel. It starts out with a bombing on Princess Street. Then an opera star is murdered. What will happen next? This books moves with great speed and excitement. It is one of my favorites in the series for the sheer terror that it creates because you know something horrible is going to happen next. And of course it does! The ending is a complete surprise but fits so easily into the narrative that I thought, "Why of course that makes sense." Great read.
