SCOTTISH BOOKS FOR A RAINY DAY

Pilgrim in the Rough

St Andrews beyond the 19th hole
By Michael Tobert

Pilgrims in the Rough Reviewed by Sharma Krauskopf and rated

If you have dreamed of playing the St Andrew's golf course then you will enjoy this book as it has a detailed description of each hole on the old course. But, this book is much more. It contains masses of information on the town of St Andrews itself. The author presents his material in a sarcastic and witty manner. I found his sarcasms a bit tiring but the entire book is a detailed travel source on the town of St Andrews, its history and its golf course.

The books tables were enlightening presenting a Chronology of the town of St Andrews, a list of the Bishops and Archbishops of St Andrews, and finally a list of Open Championships at St Andrews.

I have given this book a three thistle rating as I found the sarcastic manner of the text a little over whelming but the book did have a great deal of good information.
