In the 12th novel by Quintin Jardine about DCC Robert Skinner the first murder takes place in the USA and it is Bob Skinner's wife's parent who are killed at their lakeside cabin. The DCC travels to the USA to help with funeral arrangements and eventually gets involved with the investigation of the murder. The one thing I did not like about this book were the secrets the investigation turned up and the fact that they were left unresolved. I believe it weakened the story to not bring that issue to a close since it was one of the reasons I wanted to keep reading.
Meanwhile while the DCC is investigating his wife's parent's murder the rest of the characters so familiar to the Skinner series were playing musical chairs with their positions in the Edinburgh police department. As they moved into their new positions another murder with family implications for the characters happens in Edinburgh. The author does bring this sad situation to resolution.
This is a good read and keeps you involved from the beginning.
