Do you believe in ghosts? It is a blood chilling question for everybody loves a good ghost story.
Scotland is the a land of ghosts and haunted places. It has haunted castles, mansions, roads, battlefields, hostelries and even haunted theatres. In his search for ghosts Norman Adams graphically records true and terrifying hauntings from the Borders to the Highlands and Islands.
But crumbling castles and Victorian mansions are not the exclusive domain of phantoms. They lurk in the most unexpected of places. Wartime airfields, factories, a tram car, a caravan park, even a North Sea oil rig --they all have their strange tales of ghostly sightings. The frightening experiences of sane and ordinary people cause the spine to tingle. The teenage schoolboys who was pursued by a ghost, the family terrified by a faceless phantom in their council house and the hooded specter who drove a young married couple from their dream home are just some of the terrifying tales of the supernatural in this book. Are you brave enough to read this book?
How about a haunted supermarket. Here is a quote from the book:
When I entered the glittering Safeway supermarket in the ancient cathedrals city of Elgin the only thing guaranteed to send shivers down my spine was the chilled food counter. For, in true paranormal traditions, the resident ghost, a caped phantom, only appears in the dead of night. It would seem night-shift staff experienced strange encounter in recent years.
June Gray, stock management controller, told me of an incident in March 1993 when she was walking down a an aisle at 5:30 a.m. As she approached the foyer where a display stand contained a pile of leaflets, they suddenly flew into the air. As Mrs. Gray bent to retrieve the leaflets she heard male laughter --she described it as a 'giggle', but when she looked around there was no else there. She claimed the laughter had been heard on other occasions. 'I firmly believe there is something -- it has happened to too many other people.'
A few months after Mrs. Gray's uncanny experience admin. controller Gladys McBride saw a strange black figure float towards the door. At first she thought it was a member of staff leaving the store but she was wrong. Her statement was supported by a colleague who told me: 'It was about six feet tall and appeared to be wearing a cape.'
