This is a superb book on the lighthouses of Finland. The book's text is mainly Finnish but there is English translation and most photographs have English captions.
There are 351 high quality art pages in a large (300 mm x 200 mm) format with most pictures in full colour. The author is Sea Captain Seppo Laurell who worked for many years for the Finnish Maritime Authority. He is currently manger of the hydrographic survey office. His speciality has been the history of lighthouses and ice breakers. I found this book fascinating as so many of the lighthouses are of a different type of construction then the ones I had been use to seeing. I was so taken with this book that I am planning a trip to Finland in the future to see these magnificent structures. The book can be purchased from Finnish Maritime. By the way this is a magnificent website if you like lighthouses. |
