Based on a true story Christopher Brookmyre delivers a humorous, exciting and sometimes bloody story of the fifteen-year reunion of former pupils of an ordinary Glasgow high school, which is based on a true story. Brookmyre creative abilities are exhibited in the reunion being held on an oilrig which had been turned into luxury vacation resort. He develops it so well that I found myself wondering if the concept would really work. One of the graduates is the developer of the resort project.

This book has a cast of unique characters who attend the reunion and their reactions to the event are varied. I found myself laughing at some but others made my heart bleed for the trauma they had or were experiencing.

In addition there is what is "suppose" to be a well-planned and fast moving terrorist attack on the oil rig turned hotel. The terrorist team is made up of nonprofessionals so the attach begins to fall apart early. The sections of the story dealing with the terrorists are bloody and brutal but I found myself laughing at the chaos of it all. It is the combination of humor and terror that exhibits Christopher Brookmyre is an exceptional author who can deliver a different kind of mystery.

I loved this book and gave it four thistles.
