SCOTTISH BOOKS FOR A RAINY DAY

To the Edge of the Sea

A wonderful little book about what it was like to grow up on South Uist, Benebecula, Barra, and Forth William in the 1940s and 1950s. Christina Hall presents both the beauty and the enchancement of life on remote islands along with the isolation and challenges of being so far out of the main stream. I particularly enjoyed her her stories of her adventures and misadventures in school. Her character development is well done particularly her aunties whom she lives with off and on during her school days. This is a delightful little book.
