SCOTTISH BOOKS FOR A RAINY DAY

Bairns - Scottish Children in Photographs

Written by Iona McGregor

Bairns Scottish children from all backgrounds, towns, rural, rich and poor, are captured at home, at school, at play and at work, during a period of immense change in their lives and upbringing. Iona McGregor's thoughtful and carefully researched text is peppered with contemporary comments from the children themselves, and Dorothy Kidd captions the photographs with the intimate details of their lives.

All of the photographs in this book are drawn form the Scottish Ethnological Archive, to which many individuals, groups and organizations have contributed material on many aspect of Scottish life. New contributions are always welcomed by Dorothy Kidd, curator of the Archive.

Bairns is the third in the series of books based on photographs from the Scottish Ethnological Archive. The other titles are To See Oursels: Rural Scotland in Old Photographs and Into the Foreground: A Century of Scottish Women in Photographs.
