| A novel, first published in 1931, a semi-autobiographical begins in the same area in Aberdeenshire as Grassic Gibbon's famous Scots Quair trilogy. Grassic Gibbons wa without doubt one of the greatest 20th century Scottish writers. This book is not an autobiography but Malcom Maudslay sounds a great deal like the author. Beginning in the early 20th century the reader follows Maudlsay from Aberdeenshire to Glasgow to begin his work as a writer. Right after his arrival the First World War begins so the main character leaves for the war in France. The horrors of war are graphically presented. | ![]() |
